WHALE WATCH

Today Connor was our 'Pilot Whale'.  He decided that our 'Whale Watch' would focus on 'Helping Others'.

At the end of the day:

  • Harry thanked Reagan for helping him draw koro patterns
  • Jaden thanked Codey for helping him draw koro patterns
  • Jorja thanked Jemma for helping her draw koro patterns too
  • Fiona thanked Connor and Helna for recording our mihi

What whale watch will Harry choose tomorrow?

MIHI

Today we have been recording our mihi.  Connor and Helna are great helpers for learners in room 2.  Connor is the lead camera man and Helna is the director.

We will post each learner's mihi on their blog as they are completed.

Here is Helna's finished mihi.

WHALE TAIL SPLASH

Room 2 learners have been watching this video and we are writing about it.  We can't wait to share our stories with you.

ELLA'S KOALA BEARS

Today Ella brought her new koala friends to school.  Her pops and Tarnie have recently returned from Australia and this was her gift.  The mother koala is called Cookie and the babies are Bruce and Becky.

At the end of the day we were very excited to watch this short video about a roaming koala.  It happened in Portland, just a couple of days ago.

INSECTS

Next term we will be doing an inquiry into insects.  We are all wondering where this will take us.

Check this out!

While visiting her great aunt Joy Cowley last year, Siena had these photos taken.  Walking sticks were hanging out on her great aunty's fence, so Siena's grandma carefully picked one off for her to hold for a little while, before putting it safely back on the fence.

Will we all become insect lovers like Siena?

READING

Oliver's mum loves his enthusiasm for reading.  He told her last night he had to read his book twice, because that is how he will get better.

Today Charlie read his book over and over again, because he knew the more he practised during 'read to self' time the better he would be.

DISSOLVING AND DISAPPEARING

Today we read a story about salt dissolving in water and disappearing so we did an experiment to watch what happens when you put salt in water . You and I could do this at home and I can tell you about it.

WHALE WATCH

Some more fantastic workers 'trying their very best' during read to self.

The practice they are doing is paying off and I continue to be amazed as I listen to them read!

READING TO SELF

Our WHALE WATCH focus this week is 'TRYING OUR VERY BEST' in reading to self.  These superstars are doing an amazing job of:

  • building stamina
  • getting started straight away
  • reading the whole time
  • reading quietly
  • staying in one spot
  • ignoring distractions

HANDWRITING

Jemma was an outstanding teacher today.  Her handwriting is very impressive, so she will be helping these girls to develop their skills.  They were very motivated to show Jemma what they could do.

WHALE WATCH

After a week's focus on 'Outstanding Behaviour' on the mat, we all made it Friday's photo!  Well done room 2!  I even had someone tell me they were in all five photos.  Now that is impressive!
