What we know now ...

ANZAC is the acronym for Australia and New Zealand Army Corps.  

April 25th 1915 was the day the ANZACs landed in Gallipoli Peninsula (now known as ANZAC Cove) to battle the Turkish Army during World War 1.

In NZ we celebrate ANZAC Day on the 25th April and this year it is the 100th anniversary of the troops first landing.  

More than 11 000 ANZACs died on the Gallipoli Peninsula, despite being there for only 8 moths (that's more than 1 000 ANZACs a month who died while fighting for peace and freedom)

The original ANZAC biscuit was known as an ANZAC wafer or tile.  It was part of the rations given to ANZAC soldiers during World War 1.  They were included instead of bread, because they had a much longer shelf life.

The last surviving ANZAC, Alec Campbell, died on May 16th 2002.  

What we want to know ...

Where did they place all the bodies of the dead soldiers? - Reagan 

This video is a tribute to American service men and women, as well as those from other nations, who fought side by side with them to restore peace and freedom in the troubled regions of the world.  As they fought and died together, let us remember them together.  



We have a field of rememberance at RSS.  

AT THE MARAE

On Tuesday room 2 and our buddy class Poutokomanawa, along with room 8 and 14 visited Te Ahu A Turanga Marae in Woodwille.  A fantastic time was had by all.

WHALE WATCH

Today we were reminded how to show outstanding behaviour on the mat.  We need to:

• come quickly and quietly 
• listen to the teacher (this way we can respond - another Tohora nui whale)
• sit with our legs crossed and our arms folded (with our clothes on properly)
• face the front 
• have our hands empty (no toys on the mat)
• put our hand up to share our ideas (we cannot listen to ideas if we are all talking at once)

Many people showed their outstanding behaviour today, while sitting on the mat.  Let's see how many others we can get in our photo tomorrow!

WRITING

In room 2 we have been doing interactive writing.  Fiona writes and we write too.  We have been learning to use fast words around the room to help us record our ideas.  We are also learning to leave finger spaces between our words, so that we can share our stories with others. 

Fiona is impressed, as we try our best.  This our first Tohora nui whale.

READING

The boys using the magic pen from our rainbow reading programme.  The pen helps by reading the book to us.  We can also point to seperate words and it will read those too.  This is an activitity that we really like!

   

BUDDY CLASS

Today we met our buddie class.

THE NAME GAME

Today we learned the name game and the friends game.  It helps us to learn the names of all our friends in room 2 & 3.  It also helps us with the value of whakawhanganatanga (positive relationships) ...

Fiona and Robin think we are amazing.  We are showing that we are all valuable team members and that we respect one another already!  We make a great team!
